Let’s find out the missing pieces in Rakhi festival

Rashabandhan is a festival where sisters tie rakhis to their brothers’. Well, that's not the end of the picture. There are many missing pieces that you didn't know about. I have assembled the missing pieces and made it short and sweet for you.

 

PIECE 1:

RISE OF RAKSHABANDAN IN SOUTH INDIAN FAMILIES

A few decades ago, Rashabandan was celebrated mostly in the northern part of india. Since independence, there was an increase in openness and better collaboration between Indian societies. Later, the Raskabandan charm won the hearts of many South Indian families. Now, it is like a fashion to tie threads to their siblings among people all over india.

 

PIECE 2:

UNION POWER OF RAKHI

Rakhis have united more humans regardless of race and class. This created many voluntary kin relations among non-blood relatives just out of pure compassion. Love and empathy are the important points of Rakshabandhan.

 

PIECE 3:

SALUNO

One of the original names for Rakashabandhan was Saluno. It is a festival where sisters place shoots of barley on the ears of their brothers.

WIFE TIES RAKHI TO HUSBAND

This is one of the very interesting stories about Raksha Bandhan. Since the popular belief has been that the only sisters should tie rakhis to their brothers. When lord Indra was going to the battlefield ,Indra's wife ties a rakhi on her husband’s wrist as a fortune protector.

Then,lord Indra won the battle. So, Hindu mythology says rakhis can be tied to their husbands by their wives.

I know, this can be a very scary and funny fact of rakshabandhan. But rakhi is about a relationship’s bonding. So, if you have any friends scared of this.Then rescue them with this piece.

 

PIECE 5:

IMMORTAL HAPPY RAKSHA BANDHAN DAY

People in West Bengal call this day  “Jhulan purnima”. After prayers and poojas of lord Krisha and radha, sisters tie rakhi to their brothers ,wishing them immortality.

RAKHI STORY IN MAHABHARATA

Once, when Lord Krishna was flying a kite, he cut his hands. Upon seeing this,Draupadi cuts off a small piece of her saree and ties it to Lord Krishna. On experiencing Draupadi’s compassion, Lord Krishna promised to protect her dignity no matter what happened.

 

PIECE 7:

A KING AND A GODDESS ‘S SIBLING BONDING

The Legend ‘Bhagavat purana and Vishnu puran’ says that after Lord Vishnu conquered all the worlds from King Bali, Bali requested  Lord Krishna to stay at his place.

Later, Lord Krishna agreed to stay with him. But, Goddess Laxmi missed Lord Vishnu who was away from Vaikunta for a long time.

So, Goddess Laxmi disguises herself and asks for a  boon to Bali.

Goddess Laxmi ties a rakhi and wishes for Lord Vishnu to return.Then, King Bali granted her wish.

 

PIECE 8:

“HAPPY RAKSHABANDHAN DAY”  ACROSS THE GLOBE

The lovely representations of brothers and sisters melted people’s hearts around the globe. Now, this beautiful-bonding Raksha Bandhan day is celebrated in the USA, Sri Lanka,Mauritius, and the UAE.

 

PIECE 9:

BONDING HINDUS AND MUSLIMS TOGETHER

On the partition of  Bengal issue  in 1905, Rabindranath Tagore initiated celebrating Rakshabandhan. This was done to strengthen the love bonding between Hindus and Muslims of Bengal.
